Application of PEI Polyethyleneimine Part Two-Film Base Coatings

PEI polyethyleneimine is a high polarity and high density polyamine compound with primary, secondary and tertiary amine branching structure. Due to its structural properties, it becomes a water-soluble polymer with wide reactive properties. In order to impart various functions to the plastic film, it will be coated with synthetic resin and other materials. However, the adhesion between the film and the coating is poor, and PEI can now be used as a primer to improve the adhesion between the film and the coating.

 

Application example:

1) Easy-to-adhesive film

Background: Untreated films such as OPP and PET have poor adhesion due to their polarity. The addition of polar polymers such as PEI can achieve online coating. Effect: PEI can improve the bonding strength of polyethylene (extruded laminate). Principle: The energy hydrogen in PEI combines with the polar group formed by oxidation of molten PE and the polar group on the surface of the film to improve the bonding strength.

 

2) Heat seal film:

Background:After the garbage regeneration method is implemented, heat seal film has attracted attention in order to reduce garbage and reduce the use of packaging films, or to achieve low-temperature heat sealing to improve production capacity. Effect: PEI can increase the bonding strength between the acrylic resin layer and the film, thereby achieving the purpose of low-temperature heat sealing. Principle: In the resin component, the acrylic group is bound to the amine group. The polar group on the surface of the film is bound to the active hydrogen.

 

3) Thin films for gas shielding:

Background :Due to the dioxin problem, non-halogen gas shielding coatings tend to be used, and alternative polymers such as PVA and EVOH are recommended. Effect: PEI can improve the adhesion strength of oxidized shielding layers such as polyvinyl alcohol and film, and is particularly effective for carboxylic acid modified PVA. Principle: The hydroxyl group of PVA is bound to active hydrogen⇔PEI⇔ The polar groups on the surface of the film are bound to active hydrogen.

 

4) Film for inkjet:

Background:This film is coated with PVA or polyvinylpyrrolidone as the ink absorber layer, but its halo resistance and water resistance are poor. Effect: Quickly fix the ink to prevent dizziness and enhance the water resistance of the printing part. Principle: Cationic PEI combines with anionic dye to form polymer dye. Because PEI has high cationic properties, it often produces ionic reactions with negative dyes, thereby fixing the dye in the ink fixing layer.
