Electroplating is the process covering a thin layer of metal on the surface of a metal by electrochemical means, so that the deposited metal and the substrate metal produce a firm bond, in order to achieve the of rust prevention, wear resistance, dimension repair and decoration. Therefore, during the chromium plating process, a large amount of hydrogen and oxygen are released from the anode and cathode, and a large number of bubbles are produced the same time, accompanied by the escape of chromic acid particles, which is chromium fog. Generally speaking, the chromium fog scattered in the air accounts for 25%-30% of the total amount of chromic acid consumed in production, which not only wastes chromic acid, but also pollutes the environment and endangers human health.


In the chromium electroplating solution, the addition of high-oxygen-resistant fluorine-containing surfactants has a significant effect. Its advantages are: it be quickly spread in the electroplating tank, covering the entire tank surface, eliminating the escape of chromium fog, saving the ventilation device, reducing the consumption of chromic acid and saving the production electricity.

The traditional chromium fog inhibitor is the 8C product, which contains PFOS/PFOA and is not environmentally friendly, and now prohibited.

 

The fully fluorinated hexyl ethyl sulfonic acid is based on 6C technology and is an environmentally friendly chromium fog inhibitor, which can the 8C product, fully fluorinated octyl sulfonic acid tetraethylamine.
